The 20th Wearside Battalion
Durham Light Infantry
1915
![]() I have not been able to find any records of a G Weatherston of the Durham Light Infantry but there were two with the name A Weatherston that I have the medal cards for, this would suggest that both survived. The photograph was taken by a Sunderland Photographer known as Mr. Mack.
| ![]() The only details I have of this photograph of a young soldier of the Durham Light Infantry is that it was taken by SM & W Whalley of Sunderland.
|
![]() Both photographs by Hancock's of High Street, Sunderland. ![]() Private C Butler, 4th DLI B Coy, September 1917, Drill Hall, Seaham Harbour, Co Durham. | ![]() ![]() My great uncle David Jackson & my grandfather Arthur Jackson of the Royal Artillery. There service numbers were 85000 & 85001, which indicates that they stood in the queue together when enlisting. Once you get into family history you can unearth all kinds of interesting details. In Dave's army records he is recorded as being born in Sunderland. But in a census record he is recorded as being born in America. The most recently released census records of 1911 states he was born in New York. So my great great grandfather Michael Jackson must have went to America with a few children in tow only to spend all he earned there to return back to Monkwearmouth a few years later. |
